Beach volleyball Berlin: BeachMitte, parks, Open Play
Berlin is the beach capital among German cities: BeachMitte at Nordbahnhof is Europe's largest inner-city facility, joined by Beach 61 at Gleisdreieck, East61 at Südkreuz, Funkhaus Beach on the Spree, SPOK in Pankow and dozens of free park courts.
Winter play moves indoors — BeachMitte, East61 and Funkhaus. Parks stay first come, first served. Find teammates via Open Play, the big Facebook rounds or a public game in the app; live slots, clubs and VVB athletes sit further down.

Beach halls in and around Berlin
Berlin hands out its fixed winter slots in late summer: BeachMitte and East61 opened their 2026/27 season cards in August — one set weekly slot for the whole winter. Single hours at BeachMitte are bookable at most 14 days ahead with no cancellation; if you can play at midday, its unheated halls cost far less. Open games, training groups and coaches for the winter are in the OnSand app.

Federation
The Volleyball-Verband Berlin (VVB) is both city-state and federation: rankings, Berlin championships and the official series run through it, not through a larger regional body. Volleyball-Verband Berlin →
Frequently asked questions
- Where do you play beach volleyball in Berlin in winter?
- Indoors: BeachMitte at Nordbahnhof, East61 at Südkreuz (Beach 61's winter quarter) and Funkhaus Beach on the Spree. Beach 61 at Gleisdreieck is outdoor only — winter play moves to East61. BeachVBM (formerly South Beach / Area 85 at Trachenbergring) has been a membership club since the old operator closed at the end of 2024 — not a walk-up. Outdoor parks such as Friedrichshain are the April–September default. Beginners without a student ID can book TU Berlin's winter course “Beachvolleyball-Anfänger*innen” (level 1), mostly at BeachMitte with one group at East61. TU-Sport: beach volleyball for beginners →
- Which Berlin parks have free beach courts?
- Free, no booking, at Volkspark Friedrichshain (about six courts in the sand hollow — bring posts, net and lines; weekend mornings are often full from 10), Monbijoupark and Volkspark Jungfernheide. First come, first served. For a guaranteed court book BeachMitte, Beach 61, East61 or Funkhaus Beach; live slots are listed on this page.
- How many beach courts does BeachMitte offer in winter?
- The operator describes BeachMitte as Europe's largest inner-city beach facility. Bookable courts differ between summer and winter; its winter page lists 17 indoor courts in air-supported halls. Check the current booking page for your date rather than adding summer and winter courts together. BeachMitte: winter courts and booking →
- How do I find beach volleyball teammates in Berlin without a regular group?
- Without a regular group: All you can beach at BeachMitte and Open Play at Beach 61 / East61 (sign up about a week ahead). Weekly pickups include Lust auf nen Vierer (Facebook, Sundays) and Just Play (winter, indoor). Meetup and Facebook groups cover A1/A2. The OnSand app lists open games at your skill level — or you create one — without posting in a Facebook group.
- What do A1 to F3 mean — and how do they map to OnSand?
- Berlin players talk A1–F3 (A = beginner, F = advanced, 1–3 the steps; F3 plays A-level tournaments). It is not a federation certificate. In the OnSand app that maps roughly to Rookie (A1/A2), Rising (A3), Solid (F1), Skilled (F1–2), Sharp (F3); Elite/Pro sit above that. When you post a game, filter by the app tier, not A/F.
- Where can kids learn beach volleyball in Berlin?
- Coached kids' beach is thin in Berlin: Beach 61 runs summer kids training from age six. Berlin universities (TU, HU, FU) run Hochschulsport beach courses, mostly for students. Open games and park courts remain the easiest family entry.
